What Happens during 14th Week of Pregnancy: Expert Advice and Important Health Tips

 You are well into the second trimester.1/3rd of pregnancy has passed, 2/3rd remaining.  It is time when morning sickness is tapering, you are less tired, energy levels are rising back. You will find some sense of relief and excitement.

 Let’s have a closer look at what’s happening with both you and baby during this week.

Baby in This Week

At 14 weeks, your baby is about 8.5 centimeters long from head to bottom, roughly the size of a Kiwi Fruit. Though baby is small, significant growth and development are occurring:

Physical Growth:

 Your baby’s body is growing in length, and their proportions are becoming more balanced. The head is turning more rounder & in more proportion of body, which has been large relative to the body.

Facial Features:

The face is turning more defined. Eyebrows and eyelashes are starting to form, and the baby’s eyes, eyes are moving toward their final position on the face. There is very tiny nose, and the mouth is becoming in shape.

Baby’s Movement

 Your baby moves a lot but these movements are so light and gentle that you can’t feel them.

Development of Organs

 The baby's organs continue to mature. The digestive system is developing, your baby is swallowing amniotic fluid it goes in stomach. the gall bladder is producing bile. The kidneys are also kicking in & producing urine, which is being excreted into the amniotic fluid. Your baby is drinking amniotic fluid and peeing back in it.

Genitalia

 The external genitalia have started to develop. It may be possible to find the baby’s gender via an ultrasound, but I think it’s too early and  there is a possibility of error in many cases.

Which Changes Occur in Mummy during 14th Week:

For many expectant moms, the 14th week is time of some comfort after the initial challenges of the first trimester.

 Here’s what you might experience:

Energy Levels

 Your energy levels may be rising, and feeling of tiredness & fatigue of the first trimester is tapering down. This is a good time to embrace this vitality and do those things you may have postponed. You may take advantage of this time & prepare for your baby and coming times in last few weeks of pregnancy.

Nausea and Vomiting

 Many of pregnant women feel a decrease in nausea and vomiting around this time. Although this feeling vary, this time often brings some or more relief from morning sickness.

Appetite

 Your appetite may be rising, and you may start experiencing more hunger. It’s a good opportunity to focus on healthy diet. It will be good for both you and your baby.

If you are hungry between meals then focus on healthy snacks.

Physical Changes

 You can feel upper border of uterus in lower part of abdomen. Your uterus is growing & ascending in abdomen to accommodate the developing baby.

 Your breasts are still growing & preparing for breastfeeding. There may be yellow stains on your bra. These are due to colostrum, the first milk your breasts will make to feed your baby.

Mood Swings

 Hormonal changes can still cause mood fluctuations. Your mood may be swinging, emotional at one moment & normal at other. It’s normal to experience a range of emotions, but self-care & support from loved ones can help. Of you can’t cope with these feelings, don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor.

  1. Continue taking your prenatal vitamins, especially rich in folic acid, which is important for the development of your baby’s central nervous system.

  2. Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and protein. Staying hydrated is important for you & your baby.

  3. Gentle exercise, such as walking or prenatal yoga, can help you stay active. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise regimen.

  4.  Keep up with your prenatal appointments, they are important for you & baby’s wellbeing.
